BBC iPlayer iPad app will launch this Thursday in the UK

Catch-up Beeb TV will go live, although shows will only stream over Wi-Fi. A US version will follow in June.

UK broadcaster the BBC will launch its long-awaited native iPlayer app for iPad this Thursday, with a US version to follow in June.
The news was tweeted by BBC interactive operations engineer Geoff Marshall. "Player App for iPad is being released this Thursday - 10th Feb. 3G connection is browse only. Browse+Playback requires Wi-Fi."
He followed up by confirming that the US version will launch in June, and that there is no iPhone version of the app launching at this time. Another tweet from Marshall said that the US version of the app will be subscription-based.
Apple may not be so keen on tweets suggesting that the app will "take advantage of the higher-res screen that iPad2 has got", and repeating rumours that "iPad2 rumoured to be out next week too, but probably April in reality".
iPlayer is already available to iPad users in its web incarnation, but this is the first time it has been released as a native iOS app.
